New track - gentle criticism hoped for...
      #963870 - 13/01/12 02:03 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm a touch nervous about this - I've been messing around with production for a while, but this is the first time I've released a track into the wild. Mostly I'm a guitarist, but I've been playing with electronic sounds, and enjoying it, although I lack the background knowledge to classify or describe what I come up with

Anyway, this is a track I've put together, which started life as a technical experiment - I wanted to see if I could capture the "buzzing" sound of my finger touching the end of a guitar lead plugged into my interface, and do something musical with it. After messing around with that for a while, I added some other elements and ended up with a track. The buzzy chords that come in halfway through, and the high pitched lead line at the end are both built from the sampled buzz.

I'm under no illusions that this is a great mix - any constructive criticism of the track or the mix would be very welcome

Cheers,

Rich

Good build to the rhythmic elements which are nice and punchy.

I would have preferred to hear further melodic development which actually sounds like it takes a step back after the initial intro.

Not mad keep on the fairly standard reso bass sound but to each their own. The samples buzz is OK but doesn't necessarily strike me as anything special or particularly cutting edge.

A part in the final section lift sounds quite discordant and ill fitting like it's off key. Fair enough if that's the effect you're trying to create.

Listening on headphones, I think it needed more "oomph" in the drums; the bass synth patch overpowers everything else. As Phil O says, the buzz isn't really the featured element at the moment.

Get some weight into the drums and you've got the germ of a decent little tune going on.

Nice job!

Hi all, thanks for the feedback and comments - definitely given me some thoughts as to how I can improve the track (and my skills) which is exactly what I was after

Thanks once again.
