Mix Evaluation and more new
      #966447 - 26/01/12 03:08 AM
So my band just finished a recording session and the guy at the studio gave a quick mix, which sounds ok to me, but maybe not as super professional as I might like. I wanted to get people's input on what could be done to make it better.

Also, perhaps this is a long shot, but we were wondering what fun things we could do with the Pro Tools files.
I thought that I would see if anyone wanted to play around with them. We would love to hear anything you wanted to try, whether it simply be creating a better mixdown, adding another instrument or synth, or completely overhauling it and creating a crazy techno remix.

Let me know if you are interested and I will send you the link to the files. We have these on soundcloud listed under creative commons, so feel free to use your versions of the tracks for whatever you want.

You're right that it does sound very respectable -- not least because of the material and performances, which are both great! The main mix things I'd suggest looking at would be some more subtle send effects (it feels a little bit dislocated at the moment, like a bunch of instruments rather than an ensemble) and additional automation to make more of the long-term dynamics. Overall, though, it's work you can already be proud of.

Not a long shot at all, I'd have thought -- I think a lot of people would be delighted to get their hands on these multitracks for mixing practice and remix purposes. As such, I wonder whether you'd be interested in my hosting them as part of my free multitrack download library? Many of the multitracks in the library are now getting downloaded 50-60 times a week, so that might be a way to canvas lots of people. If you're interested, you can PM me or get in touch directly here.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I was thinking the same thing about not everything being cohesive. Even parts of the singers' harmony sounds like it could go together better (and maybe that is just a levels thing). Anyway, I sent a message using that link you sent.
