eLicence retrieval
      #966727 - 27/01/12 01:08 PM
I have an Acronis back-up of a perfect working system including Waldorf Largo which is protected by a software eLicence.I want to transfer the licence to an eLicence(Steinberg)USB key.Can this be retrieved from the back-up or must the whole partition be restored before eLicence Control Centre can find the eLicence?

I am not quite sure what you mean. But if I get your drift, the licences are kept on the dongle, not the software on the computer. I once bought some software that came with an iLok and I already had software that was licensed on an existing dongle. I installed the new software and had both dongles plugged in, then the iLok software asked me if I wanted to transer all the licenses to one key, which I did and everything worked fine. Before you do anything risky though, I would back up with Acronis anyway.

That is the original meaning of 'forward planning' from computer science, where you can back track, unlike 'planning' where you cannot! Always have a get out plan

Thanks for that OneWorld.I've got the licence on a dongle now but I hope I do'nt spend an afternoon like that again. If it wasn't for Acronis I'd be £160 out of pocket. If only they'd design it for normal humans to use.

Yes I had a squeaky bottom moment when at first everything was goingh ever so well, then found it was a case of premature jubilation when I got a 'no licences found' error, but on putting the two dongles in at the same time it asked to put all the licences on one key, which I did. I thought of using the other key as a duplicate back-up, but then thought better of it, everything now works and is licensed so I'll leave it at that. I won't push my luck!

... yet another example of software anti-piracy measures driving us paying customers crazy. People using pirated software don't have this sort of problem !

Hellloooo software makers: are you listening ?
