Green Glue Really Worth It? new

I spent some time yesterday working out quantities for my garage conversion, looks like green glue is going to cost me £300 (5 gallon pail plus gun).

Due to space the final construction will be stud with acoustic rockwool, Rbars and two layers of acoustic plaster board. Three walls are against block the remaining wall and ceiling will be double stud with a gap with the outer wall clad in OCD boarding.

Bearing in mind the loudest thing in there will be a vigorously strummed acoustic, vocals and maybe a small amp mic'd and background noise is pretty good is it really worth stretching the budget and using green glue?

If you are only going to have two layers of P/board, its even more critical to use it.

Not really had much to do with studwork etc. and never where sound was a issue, just whack it up and nail/screw the boards in place, so....

Am I right in thinking this stuff forms a semi-elastic bond? If so, presumably it can support the weight of the boards but it would be a no-no to fix anything else to it.

How do you deal with things like light fittings and wall sockets?

the glue in the name is a red herring..... it is NOT an adhesive.... it's a hydro elastic damping compound.....

the second (and third etc) layer gets screwed on as well. preferably to resilient channel. rather than the structural framework itself.

light fittings, wall sockets etc , always surface mount, ditto cable trunking.... where possible, to reduce the number of perforations of the wall.... that or fiddly back boxes made of at least similar density and thickness materials and a lot of acrylic acoustic sealant around cable entry points to the rear boxes....
