Saffire Pro 40 to New Mac - Firewire Problem new
      #969359 - 09/02/12 08:52 PM
Hello,

The cable i received with my focusrite saffire pro 40 interface, doesn't have the correct end one side for the newer mac book pros, a friend told me i need to purchase a different kind of lead,

Is this the correct one:

Thanks

Yes.

I use one for a digi002 FW400 interface, on my MacBook Pro, via the FW800 port.
No probs.

No (Well not a definate no but advice!).
Focusrite Recommend an adaptor over a Cable as they've had issues with some 400-800 Cables.
This is the one they suggest on their support site, I've been using one for 6 months with no issues.

I can't see the difference between a cable and this adapter- other than the price.
The conversion is a simple wiring exercise, with no circuitry involved.

That said, if something is proved to work, it pays not to ignore.

I'm sure I've used 400-800 cables in the past before and it's all gone fine.

TBH, for the price of the cable it's worth getting one and seeing - you'd really only be losing time rather than money...

I'm only going from what their support Doc says and I've had zero issues with the Adaptor

I have the Apple adaptor (using with an m-audio lightbridge interface). It works fine. But unfortunately falls out rather easily...
