Floyd rose issues
      #970208 - 15/02/12 09:49 AM
Hello,
I am the (somewhat proud) owner of one of the new 7 string Jackson Soloists.
Ever since I got the guitar I have an issues with the tremolo bar getting loose even after tightening it up, and floating back and forth after pretty much the first pull.

Here is a pic of the guitar (bit big but should help you get the idea):

Any ideas/suggestions on things top try are welcome.

Thanks!

Here is another closeup on this type of Floyd Rose, basically trem arm wouldn't stay tightened to the base, it would loosen up after short use and swing freely.

To my knowledge this is a known problem with the floyd rose tremolos in which the tremolo arm has a little knurled nut at the base. It's a real pain and works itself loose very easily after which the arm swings about. More irritatingly for me, there's a certain 'play' in it even when using the arm to raise and lower string pitch.

The Ibanez tremolos with their plastic 'c'-shaped / horse-shoe washers are much nicer. They stay where you put them and have very little such 'play'.

Jay, I am aware that the Ibanez one is better as my other guitar with FR is an Ibanez

Plumber's tape. Aka Teflon Tape. Put some around the 'inserted' bit of the arm and it should give you a nice snug fit. Replace when necessary!
