Recommended some professional mastering services new
      #968347 - 04/02/12 08:20 PM
I have enough tracks for our album but want to hand the mastering over to someone else, it is mainly electronic/dance music.

Can anyone recommend a good/reputable mastering service/company?

Black Saloon are now offering a remote service at a reduced price like Abbey Road.

I'd recommend giving that a go!

Dennis Blackham - IMHO, he's the king!

Thanks for the recommendations, I will check them out. I am not sure about budget, I guess around $600 (US) for an album of 12 tracks.

I am not really bothered where they are located as long as they have a good reputation.

with 600$ budget you will be able to find somebody doing really decent job.
When chasing ME, always check their portfolio, or better ask your fellow musicians about their experience. Avoid website offering recording/mixing/mastering, as those mostly are not dedicated mastering studios. Check studios equipment and audio samples.
Equipment list and photos of tools are not necessary for making an impression on client.
Nowadays if you don't see the place, just website, you would like to know if your music would be treated by someone with proper tools/experience/skills. Nothing wrong with budget semi/pro beginners with minimal tools (plugins only) and not so great monitoring/room acoustics. Only thing that word 'professional' is sometimes abused.
Online studios offer free sample preview (I presume you are looking for online mastering),
do some research until you choose 2-4 places and then ask them for a sample.
Mastering is not just about processing, good relationship with ME, communication and personal approach is important too.
wish you good luck with your album

http://www.optimum-mastering.com/ Unfortunately their website is bening re-vamped, but the engineer there is Shawn Joseph who has done lots of work with BBE, some of the loudest vinyl cuts I have!

Here is Prism's piece on them.

Digital Domain - Bob Katz, surprisingly affordable (as he works really fast) and he's one of the best. Don't let his wide variety of genres other than top 40 radio fool you, he can do what you need. He literally wrote "the" book (at least the most famous book) on mastering.

Massive Mastering - John Scrip, affordable, knowledgeable, cares a lot about doing a good job.

Give safeandsound http://www.masteringmastering.co.uk/onlinemastering.html a try,we have just had a track mastered here on line and are more than pleased with the result and the pricing is very competitive. You get a free preview, the upload and download went very smoothly, and the over phone communication is excellent and friendly.I would defiantly recommend.

How-do.. my band (http://publicservicebroadcasting.net) went with Barry at Safe and Sound too.

Our debut single 'ROYGBIV' was done by him and has been played on 6 Music 16 times ahead of release (won the Rebel Playlist last week too), so he must be doing something right!

Happy to recommend to all and sundry.. I also know that he has the right equipment, rather than being one of those online jokers with a V3 maximiser and a pair of NS-10s.
