Reverb plugin for Linux
      #970488 - 16/02/12 05:46 PM
I guess the title is self-explanatory. I've got Ardour and Audacity working well, the EQs are acceptable and I don't usually use compression or limiting. However, the reverbs are, well, awful.

The plug doesn't have to be free, I don't mind paying for it, it just has to sound acceptable.

This might sound daft, but give rakarrack a try. Although it's intended for guitar of course. the reverb effect is very smooth (I believe it was cribbed from ZynAcddSubFX).

Well the big ones are GVerb and FreeVerb, though I find them to be a bit limited in what they can effectively be used for myself. For instance i wouldn't use them for a nice natural sounding hall personally. Other than that, two off the top of my head I can recommend...

IR -- Impulse Response Reverb from Tom Szilagy. You provide the Impulse Responses of course, but there are a fair amount out there. http://factorial.hu/plugins/lv2/ir
SR2B -- LinuxDSP Algorithmic Reverb, sounds pretty decent and typically is what I reach for before GVerb and FreeVerb, though those two can make some interesting sounds, this I find more pleasing in general. http://www.linuxdsp.co.uk/download/lv2/download_sr_2b/index.html

In as far as GVerb, the newest version of Mixbus comes with GVerb wrapped in a custom UI for a plugin, has some default presets in it. I enjoy working with that UI more than the default UI, I found it more logical in it's layout and labeling, but it is still GVerb of course. At any rate if you have Mixbus update to the latest version and give it a shot.
