Logic Studio additional content...

Hi,
I'm looking at buying Logic Studio 9. However i have a few questions i need
answering first.
Logic Studio is £417 in the Apple Store. With this you get
Logic Pro and a few other programs but you also get 38GB of additional content:
Additional 38GB to install all optional content (large content packages can be installed
on separate disk): - 10GB for Jam Pack collections - 16GB for sound effects - 6GB for surround music beds - 7GB for other optional content
Logic Pro
is £139 in the Apple App Store. With this it looks like you get the program and nothing
more.
The reason i want the full Logic Studio is for the additional content you
get with it, the 38 GB of samples and so on. Is it possible to obtain these without Logic
Studio?
Also i don't suppose anyone has a heads up about Logic 10, as a lot of
shops i have noticed are saying Logic 9 is discontinued....
Cheers

In short yes, you can access the content. Once you've downloaded and installed Logic you
get the option (at any time you want) to download all the other stuff. I hadn't used
Logic since it was on the PC but at this price I bought it and now found myself using it
more and more. I run the latest version (9.1.6) on Lion and and high spec Macbook Pro and
never have any issues at all.

Your best bet is getting the full studio. Unless you have a friend with disks for the
additional content; it's only going to be available online. That's also the reason shops
have discontinued it. Logic 10 will be download as well. The Logic development team is
still very much alive and I'm sure we'll see something very soon (fingers crossed).

Yes for all 38Gb worth you need the full package. The additional content with Logic
download is only about 10Gb.

That's
compressed, and afaik it's all the Logic content *except* the 3 Soundtrack Pro content
disks, as STP is no longer bundled (or available at all). Maybe some legacy content is not
there, but I haven't looked as I don't need the download and it's a heckuva lot to
download without my ISP declaring shenanigans...

I'm gonna miss soundtrack pro. I hope they integrate it properly into Logic.

If you have logic pro 8 and buy logic 9 can you use the additional content from logic 8 ?
Or would you have to purchase the additional content for logic 9 ?

You can still use the content from Logic 8,
it's mostly the same (although LP9 comes with CAF format compressed Apple loops, which
take up less space than the aiff versions with LP8).
The additional content is
free, you don't have to purchase it separately for LP9. You click on a link in the LP9
app, select the content you want to download, and hit "Go"... that's it.

Thanks for the reply but just to confirm is the additional content is free even if
you just purchase program itself for $200?

Cheers for all the help!
So am i right in saying, with Logic Studio you get
39gb of additional content which is shared for Logic Pro, as well as the other
applications?
&
After you download Logic Pro 9 from the app
store you get an opportunity to download 10gb of content, all of which you would get in
Logic Studio to be used with Logic Pro?
So i wouldn't be losing any samples or
surround sound beds or something like that compared to if i got Logic Studio?
Cheers (hope that made sense!)

Soundtrack Pro is no longer bundled, so you don't get the Soundtrack content. Same with
Mainstage - but if you buy Mainstage too, for, what £20, then you can download the
Mainstage content.
So, if you buy Logic Pro, Mainstage, and Compressor, you'll
basically have all that's contained in Logic Studio except the Soundtrack Pro application
and content.

3 DVDs of sound
effects, ambiences, surround recordings, foley - it's primarily intended for film stuff,
really. There's also a whole bunch of music bed stuff intended to let non-musicians
knock up some quick beds for film stuff.

(shhh...to be honest the included content from the dvd's is a
little dated if truth be told....not really worth the hard disc space......reckon you can
get better quite cheaply from "more livelier and mondener" sources......all IMHO of course
)

You also lose
