After a long break from guitar playing I recently came back to it and got my Orange Rocker
30 amp out. About 3 years ago it developed an awful hum (more of an angry roar sound that
reverberates after turning to amp off) and I followed the advice on here to get it to an
amp tech. I send it to a couple and both said they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
There was obviously something wrong with it so, strapped for cash and disappointed it
gathered dust.
Present day, amp fault was still there when I turned it on,
obviously, and seemed to have got worse. I decided to swap out the power amp valves and
for fifty notes it sang like a bird. Hurrah! For about twenty minutes. The awful noise is
back with brand new valves and I think whatever is wrong with it it damaging the valves.
When it makes the noise, both valves glow a very bright blue now which used to be the case
on just one of the valves before I replaced them.
The noise seems to happen as
the amp warms up and has been played for a while. Can anyone recommend an amp tech in the
Carlisle/Penrith/North Lakes area who can actually fix this. The twenty minutes I had it
working reminded me how much I love this amp and now I can't use it again (and perhaps
wasted £50 on valves!).
