I currently have a pair of Genelec 8030a and have noticed that their bass
response below about 60hz really falls away, so have decided to get a sub to help.
From what I've read on the Genelec website, the subs to match my monitors are the
7050b and the 7060b. Sadly I can't afford a 7060b at the moment so would have to purchase
the 7050b.
Now my dilemma is that in the future I would like to add more
monitors to make it into surround sound system. Most likely with L-C-R 8030a and then rear
8020. So am I right in thinking that using 7050b in this surround set up would only limit
the maximum SPL. But in stereo everything would be fine?

Yes -- but I'd be surprised if the SPL turned out to be a problem in surround unless
you're in a very big room.... and if it was you could always add a second 7050b
