I done made a album... new

...and I've thus far been too chickenshit to post it on here where people who actually know how to record, mix and produce properly can hear and critique it. But what the hell - I'm throwing myself on your collective mercy. Be gentle with me!

My album

Jeez, this is scarier than going to the dentist!

Sounds quite raw, and has a feel of an early 70s recording about it. Nothing wrong with that.

There seem to be a couple of dodgy bits of vocal tuning in that first song, if I'm brutally honest.

But what the heck, I hope it does well for you!

Dodgy vocal tuning????

That's it! Melodyne's going back!

Seriously though, guys, cheers for that. It's great to have the feedback. I've been terrified of posting it up here for dissection!

Phil mate,

I have just listened to your album end to end and I really, really loved it. There are some really great ideas in there.

If I'm pushed to make any criticism it would only be that with cans on the kit is t o o w i d e for my taste. But that's simply a taste issue.

Give us news on how it all goes.

Alec

Heh...tried to think of a cunning Voltaire reference, but failed.

I have to admit that my general approach to stereo on drum kits (and, in fact, pretty much everything else) is:

OH---------------------------------------------the rest---------------------------------------OH

I really should try stereo in moderation sometime!

This is great! Quality songs well arranged. I'd agree about the too-wide drums comment though, particularly the hi-hats - it sounds unnatural on headphones.

I'll definitely be checking the kit width issue on future projects, then! If I'm being honest, I don't listen to music on headphones myself, and I'm probably too old to have realised that that's how a lot of people listen to stuff these days, so it's something I simply didn't check. Which is pretty lax.

I wouldn't stress over it - there are plenty of recordings with much wider drums.

Like I say, that's the only thing I could really find to make any kind of nitpicking criticism about, and even then it is only a matter of personal preference.
