Hi all
Just tried updating Cubase 6 to 6.5 and am getting nowhere. Fatal execution error 1603 (whatever that means). Have tried re-installing and downloaded installer again but no good. I am running XP which up to now has been fine. Any ideas anybody please?

There's a couple of people experiencing the same thing on the Cubase forum.

No answer as yet as it's been the weekend, but might be worth a look later to see if Steinberg respond.

Strictly speaking XP hasn't been supported since C6, so you may struggle to get any support from Steinberg, but I've got 6.5 running happily on both W7 and XP with no problems. I know that doesn't really help, but it lets you know that XP isn't necessarily the issue.

Thanks Elf, that is really helpful as I was beginning to think it might be new PC time if it wouldn't run under XP. Hopefully I can put that off for a little longer. Yes I know I will have to at some point...
Also relieved to see that other people have been having the same issue. No reply from Steinberg yet on the forum but I'll keep on checking and post here once they do.

Am glad I came across this post as I want to upgrade to 6/6.5 and upgrade my Halion too, both of which need Win7 according to Steinberg, but my soundcard, an ancient but trusty Frontier Systems Dakota/Montana (which gives me 32io) needs WinXP, so now am tempted to give it a go, and plonk Cub6 and Hal4 on and see what happens, and I suppose it is worth seeing if everything will run on Win7/32, if not buy a load of RME stuff to replace the Frontier Design interface - oh no, that's going to be costly!!!!!

Have just downloaded installer again but get same result. This is starting to get on my nerves. Anyone had any joy from Steinberg. I've sent them 2 support rquest froms but no answer from either.

Dear all, I have now given up. There is plenty of traffic in the Cubase forums about this so clearly there is an issue. I've tried the windows installation utility suggested by Steinberg but that didn't work either. It still won't install so I have requested a refund from Asknet - never had to do this before so watch this space... At the end of the day there is only so much time I am prepared to waste faffing about with downloads and failed installations - it all take AGES!
Come on Steinberg, you need to sort this out.

Blimey Elf, you've been lucky! Not yet been able to get an installer working for the update on Win 7 here. The installer stops about 3/4 of the way through saying that some of the files it is unpacking are corrupt. Downloaded and tried twice. Awaiting a response from Steinberg on this one...

Really odd!

I've now got 6.5 installed on my main studio PC (W7) and in 'the other place' (XP) - sunny smiles all round.

Strange how these things work...

...on the other hand, I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. As are quite a number of people who are having problems with this installer. Hardly 'antique'.

Steinberg have advised me to uninstall C6 and try reinstalling that before running the updater. Will give it a whirl later when I get a chance. It's either that or download a 7+GB iso file and reinstall the whole of 6.5 from scratch. Broadband speed here makes that a poor option!

Am up and running with C6.5 and am once again a happy chappy.
Here's what I did:
Control Panel; add or remove programs; select C6; click change; click repair and let it run.
Once I'd done that I tried installing C6.5 again and it went totally smoothly
I did check I was using the most recent of my C6.5 installers first and this one is from March 5th at 21:44.
Whether the Control Panel Repair thing actually did any good I don't really know of course but now it's all installed I'm not that bothered!

For others amongst us that are still with XP - it seems to work fine which is even more good news.
The not so good news is that the most recent post on this thread on the cubase forums is "I close this topic" from the administrator chap, Helge Vogt(?)which doesn't sound overly helpful.

Installed it today, also 6.5.1 update on 2 different PCs. One running W7 64 bit and one W7 32 bit. No bother so nothing to report. Hope it works out.
