Access Virus VS Prophet 08

Which one do you prefer and why?

TBH I think they are both over hyped.. I really don't get why people big up the Virus.. to me it just sounds.. ok.. No real "wow" factor

The Prophet sounds slightly better to my ears, but neither one of them would ever persuade me to part with my Waldorf Q.. bigger sound, plenty of "wow" factor and a better implemented sequencer than the Prophet.

Own a Virus KC and just recently tried a Prophet 08. Of the two, I'd prefer the 08, but I'm not so struck with it that I walked out of the shop with one. I think I was a little surprised by how small it was - not tiny, just not as imposing as an old '5. Sound was good though.

The Virus is an odd beast. To me it sounds 'bigger' with a little more weight in the sound, but I keep thinking that it's just too much. Very sharp sounding (a whole section of the manual devoted to why) sometimes. Very impressive, but like it's desperately trying to sound OTT. It also does so much more by having lots of effects and a good multi implementation.

So of the two, the Prophet is closer to my sonic palette. I could hear it slotting neatly into tracks with minimal effort. If it was 8voice multitimbral with individual outs, I'd drop my cash on the table immediately!

I've not had much experience with a Virus but I have NI Massive and someone, who's judgement I trust, says this is an excellent contender for the Virus. Thoughts / opinions?

I too would be more tempted by the Prophet 08 if it was multi-timbral.

Completely different animals. Virus is a big modern sounding monster of a synth.... Zimmer has several ( and you can hear them all over Batman) and pretty great for broad pads etc. The 08 is a great nod back to the prophet 5 and as such does great with those fat bass sounds. The two are so different as to be impossible to compare other than to get people to go for whichever floats their boat in terms of the music they make.

Got both here ( and poly evolvers, moogs, arps, waldorf etc etc etc) and they bring unique things to the table.
