Help removing AU plug ins from Logic
      #977649 - 23/03/12 07:55 AM
I seem to have accumulated more plug ins than I actually use. I was under the impression that all I needed to do was remove the components from the plug in folder ..mac hdd/library/audio/plug ins/components.

I created a folder to dump them in so I could put them back if I wanted to later and dragged a chosen component into that folder, but it just copies it and leaves it in the components folder.

Also there are repeats in there but with VW_ in front ... so, IE I have "Midnight EQ.component" and then there is a "VW_Midnight EQ.component" as well..do both have to go? if I want to remove this?

I would appreciate some help with this

Just go to Logic preferences > audio units and uncheck the ones you don't want to see.

Great Bob thanks

Will this stop Logic from loading them each time it is launched ?

Logic will still scan plugins, but it doesn't load them at launch. All it really means is that those unticked plugins won't be displayed in the plugin menus, or initialised.

Thanks its a lot tidier now, I have been having a bit of a general clean up, did a re-install of Lion and that also seems to have made it a bit snappier.

If I want to remove the components all together, is that OK? just trash them from the components folder? I have also noticed that I have a fair few VST's should get rid of those too?

If you don't want the plugins, then you can remove/uninstall them. However, just binning the components is only a good idea for small, simple AU only plugins - bigger plugins have various other plugins in other folders and various support files - you're better off running the installers for these and letting the installer remove them, if that option is available.

Plugins can also be located in HOME/Library/Audio/Plugins
