Seventh Circle Audio - anyone used these?
      #978148 - 26/03/12 09:03 AM
I just listened to a CD that was recorded/mixed with some of their DYI gear, mainly the A12 and N72. What I hear I liked but I am not sure how much of that has to do with their designs and the mic/etc. So I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with their kit and if it is worth trying out?
Thanks.

Yep I have 2 in front of me here, the N72 and T15 (or whatever its called).

Both excellent pres. T15 was really easy to build. Both a step ahead of my FF800. The Neve clone is lovely.

Only problem is that by the time you've got them plus the PSU and the case from America you may as well get a mico or whatever. It ends up not being that cheap.

Or a Golden Age Pre 73 if you want more chewiness. I've looked at the 7o and the Sound Skulptor stuff on several occasions and got as far as starting an order only to crumble at the +case +PSU +VAT +shipping element.

2 or 6 slot Lunchbox isn't a bad way to go with the Sound Skulptor stuff... assuming you only want the Neveish ones.

I did look at that but my hardware needs are pretty light and I've never invested in S500 so I'm back to square 1. I can't blame the manufacturers; when I first started many years ago I built my own guitar amps and fx and even then the cost of knobs, switches, sockets and boxes was more than most of the components. This said I'm actually happy with my BLA Auteur and whilst I love the idea of a 1073 there's nothing I can't actually do without one.

...except sit and gaze lovingly at it of course!

They are pretty good value, when I was recording more I often visited the site but never got round to building any of them. Check out the Hamptone DIY preamp as well.

cheers

The other disadvantage of the seventh circle stuff is that the rack is non-standard.

When I got mine, the £ was worth 2$! No longer unfortunately.
