What to cover, producer contract, major artist album placement
      #979326 - 31/03/12 11:02 AM
Hi, just need to make sure i have all points clear on what i should be negotiating, for a record i have placed with a major artist, which is set to be their single this year. Ive received paperwork, but before i take it to an entertainment solicitor i want to make sure i have a rough idea. It seems incomplete?

The contract states i give them full copyright to them and it was a works for hire.

I am listed as a "controlled writer" and to get a X% share of the copyright. Which i assume is publishing split (PRS). Does this also mean mechanical (MCPS), or is this negotiated on its own?

I am to be paid £X amount for the master.

I will receive credit as producer in album credits.

And thats all it covers. I am not to receive any points on the album(spoke about that before hand), but should i be negotiating anything else? Its a single, does points on the sale of the single exist, or is that the MCPS?

What other incomes am i missing/things to cover?

If all is right, i should just be receiving money from PRS/my publisher once the single is released, correct?

It sOunds like you've managed to negotiate a fairly weak position, unless they're paying a decent amount. PM me for a chat, there are a couple of people it'd be a good idea to speak to before you sign anything...... Not least my manager who is a very influential figure in pop!!
