One of those guys who went way beyond his specialist field to become a household name,
even to the non-experts.
RIP.

One of very few people who can be said to have defined the sound of rock and roll. Not all
of it, nobody did that. But a lot of it. It was good to see he lived to the age of 88. I
wonder how much that had to do with his philanthropic interests! He was always said to be
very generous of spirit. RIP.

RIP, a legend. Always stayed hours at guitar shows doing signings etc, way longer than
advertised to make sure he signed everyone's (free!) posters.
A proper British
legend. Bet the tribute concert is going to be huge...

Deeply saddened Marshall amps has been a constant in my life for so long, a
backdrop to my dreams as a child and beyond.

I remember i had a dodgy 50 Watt 1 x 12 Combo bought new in about 85. It was a real
"Friday afternooner". I kicked off royally direct to the company as the dealer in Boscombe
just kept trying to sell me another valve. He wrote me a personal letter of apology
regarding the amp and got it sorted. It put me off Marshalls in the long run i have
to say, (unreasonable conclusion obviously) but there was no doubting the fella or his
work.
RIP.

Sad news. Hard to imagine a guitarist who hasn't plugged into a Marshall at some point.
RIP.

I'm reading online that Jim Marshall became known as 'The Father of Loud'.
I
had friends who dreamt about Marshall stacks. It was a rock thing. As long as people
are banging guitars, his name will forever be.

RIP Mr Marshall, thanks for the amps.
I still use my old Marshall head - I've
had it for 30yrs! Used it Saturday, keyboard player moaned about carrying the cab (only a
2x12!) - told him he needed the exercise anyway. Rock on! (even if it is a funk band), we
will remember you every time we get those valves hot!

Hopefully somewhere far away there is a celestial bar with a lot of guitarists ready to
buy him a beer.
RIP, and thanks for the sound.

He also taught some of the guys that became rock royalty (obviously excluding
Chas and Dave)
This from wikipedia
In order to become more
proficient on the drums and to better emulate his idol, Gene Krupa, from 1946-48 Marshall
took weekly lessons from Max Abrams. In the 1950s, Marshall became part of the English
music scene and started teaching other drummers, including Mitch Mitchell (The Jimi
Hendrix Experience), Micky Waller (Little Richard) and Mick Underwood (Ritchie
Blackmore).[7][8] Marshall commented, "I used to teach about 65 pupils a week and what
with playing as well, I was earning in the early 1950s somewhere in the region of £5,000
a year (eqv. 2012 to £108,000/$170,000), which was how I first saved money to go into
business

Truly Marshall is legend in world of rock guitar. Amplifier founded by him was great
milestone for guitar music. It is very hard to say good bye to this great person. Thanks
for sharing this link here with us. Marshall will remain always in our memory.

Don't know if anyone else has seen this, but Download Festival this year will be naming (I
believe) the main stage the Jim Marshall stage for the festival. I can't see a more
fitting name for the stage in the history of rock.
