Problem editing posts with hyperlinks
      #980891 - 08/04/12 09:16 AM
OK, I'm going to copy and paste the SOS home page below, and post it...

http://www.soundonsound.com

...then edit and save...and now it's broken.

Makes it a nuisance to edit posts.

Yep, it's done this to me for many years (and I've mentioned it several times - along with them always appearing at the bottom of the text box when using Firefox). You would think it could have been fixed by now.

Try editing your post with the hyperlink, then saving it again without changing anything. If I even try and quote it, it comes out like this...

This forum doesn't like revisiting hyperlinks; never has.

Yes, it is a problem we know about. The Forum code has been so heavily modified and patched over the years that trying to track down frustrating bugs like this can take a lot of time and effort and we took a decision some time ago that we'd much rather focus our limited resources on getting the completely rebuilt and redesigned website project finished since that will bring with it a whole new forum system that will solve all these issues at a stroke.

Please be patient... we are making significant progress behind the scenes...

Just a thought, then. Perhaps you could pin a post here listing known bugs so that people know to avoid them (or where to look if they hit bug to see if it's known or not).

The forum software mangles any www.soundonsound.com URL, if you attempt to edit the post.

A simple workaround is to post the URL starting soundonsound.com (ie. without the initial www.), which it seems you CAN edit.

This format seems to be not recognised by whatever does the mangling, but works fine.
