A new lady for the toadstool!!
      #981454 - 11/04/12 07:09 AM
30 years of lust (please excuse the shakey photo)...

Excuse me while I now lock myself in the studio!

Nice.

One day I'll get one myself, maybe, I can dream.

Is it serviced and ready to go?

Yes, I dreamed for many years, but finally an upcoming project has given me the excuse/reason to get one. It is not necessarily designated to be a 'keeper', but I'm already feeling the need to be buried with this synth!

The previous owner seemed a very decent chap, and assured me he'd had an electronics engineer take a good look at her before selling. There's no way for me to know one way or the other, but everything seems to work fine. There's a bit of corrosion near the performance controls - most likely from acidic sweaty hands, a couple of missing side panel screws and a few nips and chips here and there, but nothing serious.

It has the Real World (Robin Whittle?) MIDI interface fitted (along with 14-bit upgrade, a VCO/VCF mod option and extra memory banks) - about the only disappointment is that the JP doesn't seem to repond to MIDI pitchbend or mod wheel. Nothing in the documentation seems to suggest it should, so... never mind. Anyone know if other MIDI mods (Kenton/Groove) do this - or the MIDI/DCB interface? It's also a pity that the MIDI mod has necessitated the addition of some fragile little toggle switches and drilling of the front panel, but that's just the perfectionist in me talking.

But the sound... oh, the sound...

I just tried feeding a few big pad sounds through the old Dimension D. Strewth, this has GOT to be a keeper!!

Of course, this may be my last forum posting, because as soon as Zukan sees this thread I'm going to be banned!

It's all right, we've tied him down...

I used to own a Jupe 8 myself -- lovely machine that makes some unique sounds... but still not a patch on a CS80

I don't recall DCB responding to pitch bend or modulation directly, but the Kenton Pro DCB interface has an aux CV output that hooks up to the filter CV in of your synth, and will respond to various controllers. Also, the Kenton is bi-directional, which comes in handy if you want to record arpeggiated parts.

....I'd be happy with just one night with such as she - err - I mean with -

Anyhow we are all hoping the dream does not dissapoint...he he...keep us informed - even if it causes nothing but envy I would be keen to know if its worth it all - as I'm sure every one would.

I'm sure the MIDI will make it all the more usable, even if it is just note on/off.

We've talked about this before Elf. You are a heartbeat, or midi packet delay, from getting banned.

Dear Aunt Zukan,

I've tried and tried but I just can't get excited by that picture. Is there something wrong with me? Should I see a doctor?

Yours worriedly,

CC

Yes, there is. However, a doctor can't really help here.

I do know someone that could help.

His name is 'Ned the Nut Gnasher', but don't let that put you off.

Well, one man's porn is another man's art, I s'pose. To me it's just a keyboard, but that concertina with her soft, slinky leather bellows and slim buttons to caress and, and ... quick, nurse, the screens!
