Is this about piracy of your eBooks and tutorials, Zuke?

If so, sorry to say but it's a bit of a waste of time and a law of diminishing returns. Focus on the good people, not the slimebags! They'll never buy from you anyway because they are thieving cnuts who will steal anything. It's not personal - they are, in fairness, equal opportunity thieving cnuts who will steal from everyone. And they'll steal stuff even if/though they are probably too thick to know what to do with it.

You're (arguably) not losing sales to these people because they wouldn't buy anyway.

F'ck 'em! I've seen too many good people go down spending their entire time chasing piracy rather than developing great new stuff that decent people want to buy and use and enjoy.

And what do you intend to do? Sue them? What's to be gained from going after some sad (probably) unemployed dickwad surrounded by empty pizza boxes in his miserable digs?!

You could challenge them 'intellectually' but that would be an unfair fight ... and they will take the bizarre and surreal stance that they are 'promoting' your products - yeah ... right. Idiots.

And some (who incorrectly believe they have an intellect) will (wrongly) argue that all IP should be free as a matter of some twisted moral principle.

Give it up, friend - focus on the good people, get them in and engage with them. The tosswits who steal your stuff won't ever buy it anyway. That's that!

Annoying? Bloody right but not worth making yourself ill over.

Best thing I ever did was to give up on these arse bastards - if they have a brain cell between them, I'd be surprised.

And they have small penises and no friends ... unlike yourself who at least has some friends!

Zuke - feel free to PM me. You know my own firm does not do entertainment work so the best I can do is try t find you someone who does... but you know it's not cheap.

Thanks guys.

I know it's self defeating but I just released my new book and it's already available everywhere on the net for zilch.

I spent the best part of yesterday filling in DMCA forms with Google and contacting hosting companies. But when someone has the nerve to email me back and tell me to f@:? off and do what I want, well, that's where I draw the line.

Sorry to hear this Zuke! It is so frustrating but I concur with Hollowsun. Life IS too short to focus on the negative. There will be plenty of people who not only respect your words, but also your right to a fair chunk of crust. Dave

Perhaps you should change your appeal to "any thugs with baseball bats on here, who fancy going abroad to 'have a word' with some servers'?

Maybe your time would have been better spent making a new product, a new collection of samples to sell to people who'll buy, not go after tossers who never will!

Just saying!

1. I hate to say this, but the Hollow One is right. Going after software piracy is a bit like fighting off flies with a sword.

2. There are several good reasons why books are on paper -

a. Copying them and scanning them in is difficult and time consuming.
b. You can't give your favourite aunt (the one with the peculiar growth on her face) a download for Christmas.
c. They are far easier to read on paper and you can take them to bed for a bit of night-time reading.
d. People like to possess physical objects.

3. Anything digital will always degrade in value. The speed at which it degrades is governed by a series of factors, such as ease of copying, availability of spares, replacement by newer technology, perceived intrinsic value, etc., etc.

I once turned the whole thing its head when some publisher in the US brought a book out, that we happened to own the copyright to. It was in very high quality print form and leather bound and lovely and he probably thought that he could just waltz over our copyright, as it was a rather obscure history written decades ago and of interest only to historians and hardly likely to sell in thousands. Perhaps he thought that we wouldn't notice! The book was nearly 1,000 pages long and I am sure he paid a pretty penny to get it made.

I put the whole thing on the Interweb and made his leather bound limited editions worthless.

(Sorry to be a know-it-all, but that comes with bitter and hard-fought-for experience!)
