Hi there,
Does anybody know if the old 2002 Emagic Logic Control Surface (which
I understand became the Mackie control surface) can be used with the current Logic Pro?
There is no mention of it in the Logic Pro Control Surfaces manual

Hi Desmond,
I assume for it to work a driver has to have been written for the
unit and the current Mac OS. Is that right?

No, no drivers needed.
It just uses standard MIDI over a standard MIDI port,
and all the translation of that MIDI into controlling Logic is inside Logic.
There is nothing else you need other than a standard MIDI interface, you need a
dedicated MIDI IN and MIDI OUT for the Logic Control and that's it.

Sound promising, although it's an aging unit. Have you ever used one?

Hang on a minute. I thought the Logic Controller 'developed' into the Mackie. Are you
saying it's just a re-badging?

Logic Control
was designed and developed by a collaboration between emagic and Mackie. Mackie did the
hardware, emagic did the software, and the deal was that emagic got exclusive rights to
have the Logic Control all to themselves for a year or two. Then Mackie brought out their
version, rebadged with colour changes, which supported all DAWs *except* Logic (as per
their arrangement), called the "Mackie Control"
Then when exclusivity passed,
Mackie then updated the Mackie Control to the Mackie Control Universal, which contained
both Logic support *and* the other DAW support.
But it's all basically the same
machine. Basically the MCU is just a slightly different colour Logic Control with updated
software and firmware to support other formats than the standard Logic controller format.
