They already moaned about it in a newsletter last week.

As usual, it was their affiliated political masters, Labour, who came up with this whole Olympics bollocks in the first place.

It will be as I envisaged - some Cocker Knee CRB-checked pearly kings and queens dancing around in hard hats, goggles, gloves and sturdy boots with protective toe caps to satisfy H&S regulations.

Fantastic!

Quote:

Organizers of the London Olympics were hoping to have the famous drummer of The Who, Keith Moon, perform during their closing ceremonies when the games wrap up in August.

There's just one problem: Moon has been dead since 1978.

The Who’s manager, Bill Curbishley, broke the bad news to the London Olympic crew, quickly breaking the sad news.

"I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old,'" Curbishley said. "If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him."

so long as they're not barred from playing, for having taken 'performance-enhancing drugs'

They could always do Keith Moon by hologram, like Tupac's appearance at a festival last weekend. Might even be cheaper than the real thing, and wouldn't trash any hotel rooms afterwards.

Are the MU potent enough to do anything ?

.. this is a very important issue actually ..
London 2012 legitimizing strong arming musicians into providing for nothing.
How is this setting the tone ?

If the MU can actually stand up and make a decent noise about this, and even apply enough pressure to get this sorted - my faith in them is renewed.

I wouldn't play at the Olympics if it was the last gig on the last day of eternity on the last planet in the universe.......even if they paid me!

The MU should get supported by the TUC on this

As the Olympic commitee have an agreement with the TUC and assuming the MU are affiliated with the TUC (my assumption is they are). The TUC should help put some weight behind this if needed.

Well they have three main options:

1. All MU members in Britain go on strike

2. They release a charity appeal single

3. They get Ferghal Sharkey to have a sectoral-lead-body luncheon with all key stakeholders, in an effort to move the process forward, identify goals and define an agenda for change.

...which one do you think they'll go for?

Yep, the MU are TUC affiliated. And yes, there's certainly a lot of fatties there.

As long as Feargal gets to sing my Perfect Cousin at the event as well, I hope they go for Option 3.

The Undertones have been reformed for about the last 10 years! But not with Ferghal.

All part & parcel of the corruption surrounding the event.

This country's print industry is not far off needing life support, and promises were made that preference would be given to British printers. So what happens? British registered companies got some nice contracts, then immediately outsourced to China, India and even Brazil
