room conversion to studio help needed
      #983650 - 22/04/12 04:21 PM
Hey peeps,

apologies if my last post was a little unclear so I'm gonna have a second attempt:

Basically I have been given the opportunity to convert a bedroom into a studio (control room only) and I would really appreciate some advice as to whether its worth doing...

The room is 10ft across 6ft depth 6ft high and the idea is the split it in half with a false wall.

pics of the room can be found here:

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150694319852001.388530.63745200 0&type=3

The idea is to move the bed and seat back and leave the table at the back in. At the moment budget isn't a problem as the person who owns the house wants to build a studio area so that he can listen to his classical music collection in the perfect environment.

My question is the whole thing worth the effort and is it worth putting up a false wall?

thanks in advance for poeple comments and advice

charlie

I can't see the Facebook pix, so I'm commenting blind, but...

If I correctly understand what you're trying to do, a 5ft x 6ft space is going to be extremely tight. Have you allowed for an access door in your plan?

It really depends what you're going to try to do in it. Theoretically, even a room this small would give you room to sit at a small desk, which if well designed, could be loaded with quite a lot of equipment.

Setting-up monitoring is likely to be problematic, but if you stick to small, nearfield only monitors and add some treatment in at least the vital corner and mirror areas, you might get away with it. Or use headphones (?)

I can't see the pics either - have you measured the room or is this an estimate?(I would expect normal ceiling height to be 7'6"). If the room area is 10' x 6' to start with then I would be loathed to divide it with a wall. You'd be taking a very small bedroom and turning it into 2 large cupboards. Apart from it being anything but a perfect environment to listen to music, classical or otherwise, I'm curious as to how you're going to get a 6'6" bed into the other half?

Sorry for the late reply peeps,

thankyou for the replies, very kind.

firstly, sorry to be rubbish but I don't know how to insert images! can anyone give some pointers

secondly, I forgot to mention the room is loft space and as mentioned above the space wil be quite tight if I split the room in half. So I'm guessing either leave the room as it is and just put up some bass traps in the cornes maybe or don't bother at all.

cheers
Charlie
