sourcing components

Having a bit of trouble finding the parts I need for a Trace Elliot head. Any suggestions
where to look? The parts are a B50k pot and a B100k slider pot. I can't get the right
physical sizes and types I want. Ironically this place has the exact parts http://www.britishaudioservice.com/parts.php?mfg=1&cat=14I say ironic because of the name, based in Nashville Trouble is it would cost a lot with postage - $27 in total. Not my amp or money, but
still if I can get the parts here it would be better. I've found the main pot on ebay from
Hong Kong - quality issue? But no luck with the slider. RS, Maplins, Farnell have nothing
as far as I can tell.

Might help if you mention the size you *do* want Rapid, Stagebeat and various others do these things in various sizes. What exactly do
you need? Btw, I've ordered plenty of parts from HK and had no problems so far,
except for a couple of ill-fitting switches when I went for the cheapest of the cheap.
nothing wrong with thousands of pots, diodes, resistors and various other things. I can
see why some are wary but it's worked for me so far...

Two other possible sources (apart from the manufacturer of course) are Rapid Electronics
and Mouser. You might even try Digikey although I've had a few problems ordering from them
so I'd only use them as a last resort. James.

Hi fletcher! I agree with Mixedup - there are at least five products labelled
B50K pot on that page and two labelled B100K slider, so we need more information Martin

Sorry Mixed, I didn't think you would want to know the actual pieces so much, just
wondered if you knew anywhere I could try.
If you click the link I posted, it is the
top pot for the B50k. I think the shaft of the B50k is 16mm in length (including the
thread part for the fixing nut). I say think because it's gone, as in snapped off. Further
down the slide pot is called the SMX pot, 45mm length B100k.
I have already
chanced it ordering the B50k from Hong Kong, hope it's ok as you suggest. Dirt cheap so no
matter anyway.
Thanks James, I will have a look at those places now.
Was posting as you did Martin - hope this helps.

Thanks James, I think Mouser might have the slider. http://uk.mouser.com/Passive-Components/PotentiometersTrimmers-Rheostats/S
lide-Potentiometers/_/N-9q0yl?P=1yzogluZ1z0vkozThe middle three look ok,
seems the same except it has an LED, 3 colour choices. The originals have no LED, but that
wont matter will it? Centre indent, exact dimensions, I'm hopeful. I will remove the
slider tomorrow to check the solder pins.

Just wanted to say unfortunately mouser had a £12 min delivery charge. So it seemed I
might as well get the original slider pot from British Audio in Nashville. It was cheaper
to get it from America even though most of the cost was the postage, they charged less
than the UK company.
Only mentioning this as the service they gave was
excellent in case anyone else ever needs some parts for older amps. I recommend them, well
packed, very fast delivery and with a personal touch. All for what was a very small order
- not much in it for them. The web site is easy to navigate and you pay with paypal.
Oh, and the amp is working fine now.
