I was blown away the first time I heard Nancarrow; then, after a few more encounters I got
a bit blase until I heard a pianist actually playing what Nancarrow had programmed and was
thought to be unplayable by mere humans. Then I was REALLY blown away.
But yes,
it's great stuff, nearly as impressive as Art Tatum at full bore which you would swear was
four hands at the piano.

You can definately hear Nancarrow in Zappa, and he was obviously pretty happy with his
Synclavier - pretty much his digital multitimbral player piano.
He felt he
didnt have to put up with pesky musicians anymore - after demanding - and generally
getting so much from them.
I'm not sure about Nancarrow myself though,
sometimes it just sounds like sped up MIDI files, which it sort of is....but its more
likely true that there is more music in there that my lesser brain can handle.
I took the time to listen to some of his 'normal' work and he was obviously a formidable
talent- I apologise to Frank for not doing this years ago.
