sound design practice in deadtime on budget
      #985847 - 04/05/12 11:53 PM
I want a cheap gizmo to practice fx/synthesis/sounddesign on, while bussing & in lunchbreak. All my stuff is Windows & VST, so the ideal would be a windows mobile phone because by chance my orange Rome has joined the great service provider in the sky.

Payg is best for me and this puts iphones out of reach, although ipod touch is a consideration.

Internet searching suggests that functionally equivalent software is available in mac & windows & android.

I was really impressed by the call a spade a spade Windows Phone Synthesizer marketing but I haven't been able to try it out in situ on a windows phone. The couple of boring reviews look like mac trolls:

what I really want is a touchscreen micro computer combination that can handle fxpansion dcam synth functionality. All those lost hours on the bus offset with gained transmod skill

gumstix looks like it's waiting for an audio linux entrepreneur, unless all the hardware resources are already available in current phones. phoneme would be a good name for what I want

Does anyone have a similar need?

Remember that most Windows phones won't run software designed for desktops unless it is recompiled specifically for the phone. They normally use ARM processors rather than Intel which require different binary codes. The phone operating system is also different.

I suspect you'll have more success with a tablet rather than a phone.

James.

This thing runs Windows 7.
Portable and poweful.
Also expensive though.
