Yeah, go to a Sine Wave night these days, and its the same builds and drops with depressing regularity. People tried to mash it up with filters - but it just sounds the same.

I have to disagree; the 20-20K sine-wave sweep on my Sound Check CD does have a certain "je ne sais quoi" about it.

I went to a sine wave night once. Never again! It was impossible to work out who was playing what, as they all sounded the same.

@Martin
I can't help thinking that you'd only get the true essence of the sound if you took it from the original wax master.

D'oh! Silly me; I'd forgotten all about that - and of course the fact that it was mastered at Abbey Road by Alan Parsons will have added an interesting vibe; you can almost sense George Martin's presence...
