Logic Express 8: list of exs instruments where to find one? new
      #987617 - 15/05/12 05:20 PM
I'm wondering if all the EXS24 instruments that LE 8 is meant to have are installed properly in my version (I've read that it's quite common for some not to load during the initial installation). But I can't seem to find a list of what SHOULD be there anywhere, certainly not in the manual. So where??? Thanks for any help you can provide. CHeers

Use Pacifist on the installer disks and you'll get a directory listing of all the installer packages and you can see exactly what instrument content is included - then you can compare that to what's installed.

If need be, then using Pacifist you can extract just the files you want to another location and copy them to your actual locations to get them back.

Amazing Desmond (as ever!). What a nifty piece of software. Looks like everything is there apart from a big folder of legacy content (whatever that means--from a previous Logic version?)--samples, sampler insts, channel strip settings, guitar amp pro patches etc.

I've extracted the 'Library' folder with them all in from the disk, but how do I go about getting them installed? Do I have to take each bit out and drop it in the appropriate folders eg take the channel strip settings and manually put them in the main logic channel strip settings folder in the main App Support library? Or is there a whizzy quick way?
Cheers for your brilliant assistance!
Simon

Yep - it's a really nice tool to have.

Yep - legacy content is content from Logic 7. Basically, between 7 and 8 a lot of the content was reorganised, expanded, deleted etc. The legacy content is included just in case you had previous projects that relied upon that content. Otherwise, it's mostly not needed.

If you use Pacifist's "Install" option, rather than "Extract", then it will extract and place the extracted files where the installer wants to put it. "Extract" is useful when you just want to get content out of the installer packages without actually installing it.

You can of course copy files to their destination's manually as well.
