testing a used Mackie Control Universal Pro?

Hi there,
How can I test a used MCUpro before handing over the cash?
The seller will have no computer to hook it up to. Is there a "show your
working/demo " button/s to press that makes it run through a diagnostic routine etc? Or
will I have to borrow a Macbook and load my Logic onto it?
If it's the latter
can I just hook them up and it's a turnkey situation or is there a lot of configuring to
do?

when you first switch the unit on it does a fader calibration routine - moves all the
faders up and down in a mexican wave.
but thats it. The faders are the
things most likely to fail.
other than that, take your laptop
I've not used the MCU Pro, only the MCU (original).

Thanks Bossman.
What about hooking it up for the first time, does it just
"work", or is there lots of configuring?

with the original MIDI version, you just plug it in to your MIDI interface. As far as I
remember, Logic will recognise that it is there and do the configuring for you.. other
programs may need manually configuring. if/when you do have to manually configure it, its
not difficult.
With the USB version, MCU Pro, you might have to install some
USB drivers.. i don't know as I've not used the USB version.

I've got the USB version. It just works. One of the joys of the thing.
All
the information you need, at least so far as Logic is concerned, is in this PDF.

Hi Concertina,
If it just works, does that mean no drivers are required?

Exactly so. They are installed when you install Logic. Mackie worked with Apple on
this. CC

Plug it in. Run Logic. Learn how to use all the features available to you. That's basically the workflow

Thanks for the info guys.
Sorry if I sound like a numpty but just so I can be
clear and I don't go like a lamb to the slaughter when I purchace.
When I plug
in to a mb pro via usb can I just expect to see the screen faders move/follow the mackie
control straight away, and vice versa the mackie's move when I mouse controll the logic
faders?

Pretty much - of course, it depends what channels you are controlling - your real MCU has
9 faders, Logic has potentially hundreds. But basically - yes. When you run Logic, you'll
know the MCU is found as Logic will automatically jump the MCU faders to attention.
