Bit of eq after compression or limiting

Whats standard to add some bass back in? Last while just had compression followed by
limiter And then, a touch of eq..
All I hear about is post compresser
eq If you done compresser-eq and then limiter I'm Thinking u'd end up lossing
the eq but again But I haven't tried any of this enough..
What would be
ideal, for me bit of eq after Compresser- limiter isn't bring back enough Of
what I first started out with, with pre- dynamic Eq??

Limiting should come last otherwise it is largely pointless.
Normally I would
eq after compression as the dynamics processing can affect the perceived tonality.
But in your case it sounds like the compression is damping your bass end too
much, which implies that the bass is very strong to start with and the compressor is
trying to restore a more normal spectral balance.
Try putting a high pass
filter in the compressor side chain to make it less sensitive to the low end.

Thanks Hugh! Didn't sound quite right after limiter alright..
Not a big
issue anyway just experimenting for now Thanks

Sometimes I get a great sound through the EQ, compress it then EQ it again if I have lost
any tones I like. Hell I've used 2 compressors on one channel before. If it works then do
it. Limiting however is definately at the end of the chain. Only thing after that is
dithering.

I have also seen George
Massenburg use an eq before compression and then another eq after the compressor on this
video as he demos the GML compressor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QElxm41CS8I&feature=plcp

As I seem to be understanding it, perhaps I'm misusing limiters by using um On
individual tracks, like a bd track
.. Just seems more finished like that..

well that'd be a very nice compressor wouldn't it !!

You can use limiters on source tracks to achieve control on transient-rich signals like
drums, and you can eq before compression to alter the way a compressor reacts to the input
signal. It all depends what you're trying to achieve.
In general, though, eq
after compression and limiting at the end of the chain to catch transients missed by the
compressor is the most common arrangement.

...and there's always door #3: Multiband compressors. Lets you do things like control
the bass without making the high end duck & pump every time the kick hits.

I'm a bit confudled trying to put adise to practice today and I know my ears should know
but theyre always playing tricks on me..
say so: I do a low cut on a BD at
around65hz, great- do the compresser now I want to boost at 80hz
I'll add
now I'm using softtube trident: so.. in order to boost at 80hz-ish only and not bring
back up the 65 downwards freqs
should I be hitting in the 25+50hz "highpass"
again after comp. for the 80hz boost?
sounds wrong as if I'm killing more freq
after compresser but I would of thought 50 hz cut is 50 hz cut etc
but maybe
with the post comp. 80 hz boost this shelving affect without activating 25+50hz hipass
swicthes again, I'm "undoing" the original freq cut
like I said I'm
confudled to the theory
please help Ta!
