Now that I've got a mac and logic, is my Line 6 POD HD500 redundant?

Just wondering - now that I've got my iMac and Logic, is my Line 6 POD HD500 now
redundant? I only ever use it for recording, never live - a proper amp works much better
on stage.
From what I hear, 'Amp Designer' in in Logic is every bit as good as
any Line 6 product...
Expert opinions most appreciated, before I flog my HD500
on eBay :-(

If you like your favorite sounds from the Line 6, and can't replicate them or better them
in Amp Designer, don't sell the line 6. Also, Amp Designer uses cpu, and if you want
to do lots of tracks, this will make things difficult. If you know what kind of sound you
want for a recording and can get it from the line 6, it is the best choice. Still, try out
Amp Designer. Use both.
But then, all the well-known third party guitar
plug-ins available sound better (to my ears) than Amp Designer, and are easier to use.
They are all available as demo trials. I, however, use Amp Designer, but mostly because
electric guitar is not my main instrument, and because AmpD is very cpu efficient in
comparison with the other guitar plugins.

Only you can answer that, depending on the
sounds you have access too. If you like the Pod sounds, and/or can't recreate acceptable
ones in Amp Designer, then keep it.
If Amp Designer sounds just as good or
better to you, and you find the plugin form factor convenient, then use it instead.
I can't imagine they sound the same, so... it's your call, really... :shrugs:

If your HD500 is a floor mounter you'll be missing out on the real time control elements.
As to 'is it better?'. Only your ears can tell in an a/b stylee. Balancing
your expectations of Logic vs those of the HD vs the £200 odd you'd get from eBay is a
complex and individual equation .
Personally, I haven't used the L6 stuff since I replaced my Pod XT with Guitar Rig (I
preferred it personally) but I've heard good things about the HD series vs the software
only solutions so it may well hold its own or beat logic - over to you

Sound is just one part. The hands/feet on hardware is always fun and pretty flexible. It
depends whether you need the cash or not. Sometimes that piece of hardware sitting there
is just the thing you need.
