Ive tried before and now I'm trying again - can someone teach me Cubase 6 please?
I'm currenly learning via Skype which works very well but my teacher doens't have V6 and
I can't understand note expression and the other V6 gizmos....
Please don't
send me to a youtube tutorial - I can't ask the teacher a question when it doesn't work
for me and yes I have tried the user manual and I have the Simon Milward book which I
can't understand either.
I don't want to ask specific questions on here because
I'm afraid you will answer me. I need a real teacher who is a human being and not a
recording/book.

Everything you've tried is what you need to be doing plus more. Cubase6 can be a pretty
complex program. It does sound as if you're not ready for it, if you're having problems
after doing what you say. I would get something that is a lot simpler to use, or free.
Start with the basics.
Either that or go on a course with others and a teacher
in the room, learning by skype isn't a good way to be going about it, especially if they
have a different version.
Don't just be learning about the software, read and
learn about studio equipment and the engineering side of things, however basic, I went to
free studios to learn about desks etc, and I was taught about software too.
Cubase is a studio in a box, it has many of the things you would find in a studio in
software form, mixing desk, compressors etc.
Basically, you need to learn it
yourself with help next to you, then go away to try it by yourself, just like lessons for
anything. Some can teach themselves but you need help like I did.

Then ask general questions.

I recommend Cubase 5. Alot friendlier. I have no reason to upgrade cos it works very
nicely.

Hello fine people and thank you for your responses.
I certainly will have a go
through the Steinberg site thank you. Skype is great for learning - so far I'm
recording and editing midi and audio, automating and mixing with some confidence. I just
need the V6 new stuff as my current teacher doesn't have V6.
Couldn't buy V5 -
not for sale....!

Hi nerdle, I have read many of your posts and while I sympathise it leaves me wondering if
it's your approach that may be holding you back. While its admirable that you want to know
how every feature of cubase works, it seems that this is more important than actually
making music, which surely is the point? I use C6 and don't have the slightest clue how
half features work, but to be honest it's totally irrelevant to me as i am able to make
the songs I want without that knowledge. If it hit a roadblock, then I either try and work
it out myself or ask someone on here, then carry on making my song. You can know too
much sometimes....

Jaminem - I've wondered that too! I would really like to use note expression
though!!!! My compositions are full of glissandos and wobbles and yes I could use the
controller but I thought someone with V6 can't be that hard to find?
Also -
having had a career in photography I've regretted not knowing something for years more
than once. I'd rather expand my knowledge than accept limitations.

Those
people make pretty good videos, I have used their Cubase videos and I can recommend
them.
Also strongly support Wiseau's recommendation to not learn just Cubase
in isolation. It's like getting a degree - taking and doing well in one course alone won't
get you there - learning Cubase is only a small part of learning how to make a
"record".
Here's one way to get started: set up your track, record, play
back, make a CD. Don't worry about any details other than just getting that done in its
most basic fashion. Once you've done that, you'll start to wonder why what you're hearing
isn't what you expected to hear. Then the fun starts!
Good luck!
