Corner Bass Trap Height

Hello I am pretty new to studio acoustics so any help is greatly appreciated!!
I built some six inch thick panels that are approx 2 feet by 4 feet out of roxul
to use as corner traps. I am just wondering if there is a height that i should place them
at. My room is approx 13 by 23 Feet and my desk is about 18 inch from the wall and
speakers will be placed roughly 3 feet from the side walls. If anyone could point me in
the direction of a post already covering this or has some ideas of their own it be
fantastic
Thanks
Danny Z

Bass will build up in the full corner so placement is not a critical. With that said
though Tri Corners will pick up more low end but I dough you would hear the difference
with the panel on the floor or 1 or 2 feet off the ground.

Having said that, when I installed some 4-foot high by 2-foot wide Realtraps Minitraps a
few years back I tried supporting them at various heights while measuring waterfall plots
and in my room the measurements indicated they were noticeably more effective spaced about
2-feet below ceiling height with their bottoms around desktop height. Your
mileage may vary, and as Glenn mentions you may not ‘hear’ the difference, but every
little helps! Martin

One
thing I will say is if you have a concrete floor you will see a pretty big difference when
placed on the floor. The same would be said if you had a concrete ceiling.

Hi Danny, If you are using powerful, and real low frequency absorption such as
diaphragmatic or a resonator, and you are using them in every corner and maybe even across
the wall surfaces, you should at a minimum have the absorption technology as high as your
speakers. This will allow for the same sound pressure patterns that the absorbers will
produce to exist across the listening position. If you have the room and are only working
with corners, fill each corner floor to ceiling. Foam of any kind or type will
have difficulties absorbing anything below 100 cycles. Make sure you are using the correct
technology to solve your acoustical issues. If your goal is low frequency absorption and
you are using foam, you will not be satisfied with your results. Regards, Mike

Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply!!
Sorry for the late repsonse,
didn't see that I had another reply
I have my first reflection panels at
slightly higher than speaker height so that makes alot of sense to do the same with corner
traps! I have no foam currently just roxol hopefully it does the trick
Thanks
for all the helpful info!
