Headstock Tuners vs Pedal Tuners

It would appear that clip-on headstock tuners afford silent tuning and the removal of one
pedal from your signal chain - and also free up valuable space on your pedal board.
...and yet many manufacturers are still coming out with new pedal tuners.
I have a Peterson Strobo-clip [headstock clip] and have owned a Boss TU-12 for over 20
years. The Petersen seems to have problems tuning the high E string depending on the
guitar and the place on the headstock. That said, it is great for rehearsal and live to
tune without having to add an extra pedal.

Well done on giving up the snouts there Music Wolf.
I have always used
headstock tuners until recently when I finally put my pedal board from heaven together and
felt I ought to have a tuner on that. I am now a convert to the Boss TU3. I find it is
more accurate and easier to use than the headstock ones. And actually more silent, because
it cuts out the entire signal chain when engaged, which headstock ones don't. But I still
use my headstock ones for my acoustics and my bass (for which I do not have a pedal
board). Its always there. The space on the board was planned and the wiring has not been
an issue. Love it!

JM, I find both work fine for me. Since going wireless the headstock tuner makes sense.
However, I always carry cables and my Boss tuner pedal in case there's ever a problem with
the wireless unit. If I'm wired up, I tend to prefer the pedal as it's not quite as
tempermental.
The headstock tuner does seem to read the 6th string drop D a
little better.
