Which iMac to run Logic Pro 9?

Hi All
Now we know that iMacs are not going to be updated in the near future,I
was wondering
which of the current iMacs would run Logic Pro 9 and Garageband,and be
reasonably future Proof.
I was looking at getting a refurb basic £999 21.5"
model,but I would be interested to hear from anyone who uses a Mac for Logic.

Mac mini?
If you already have a decent screen etc etc why go any further. I
have just got my mini up and running and even with only 2gb ram can run a fair few tracks
in GarageBand with lots of processing going on. That's out of the box and I'm sure there
are tweaks to make them run a bit more efficiently and an upgrade to 8gb on the ram will
help.

I got a refurbed 27 i7 3.4 last October. More ram from crucial to 16 GB, it never gets out
of breath, leaves me to worry about making music!!

I have a 2009 21.5" iMac, and a MacBook 2,1 (white plastic, non pro) both of which run
Logic 9 fine. The MacBook is now the major workhorse, because it connects better with my
control surface.

I have two iMacs that I use Logic Pro with.. and the one with only 4GB of
RAM can sometimes slow down during edit of larger Logic mixes. Anything less than 8GB,
and you're likely to hit the wall. Both iMacs are 2.7 GHz i5s. My iMac with 8GB of RAM
is a smokin' system, and runs Logic, several VSTs, etc.... concurrently without issue.
Bottom line.. Get an i5 or greater system, and load up on the RAM...

A note on that:-
Lion seems to use way more memory compared to Snow Leopard. I
could comfortably run an SL system on 4GB of ram (comfortably meaning that it still
performed ok in general) - however, 4GB on a Lion system is already hitting the swapspace
the second you run a few small apps (e.g., Mail and Safari), and larger apps just bog it
down really quickly.
I recommend 8GB as a minimum on any Lion system these
days.

I use a
Yamaha 01x, using the mLan drivers. They don't run under Lion (I've got it working just
once or twice, and it's too much of a hassle), but even when using Snow Leopard on the
iMac vs. the MacBook, the procedure seems more reliable on the laptop.

How many softsynth tracks and plugins would you need to use at once? My 2007 macbook
running Lion and Logic 9 is good and stable enough for me, for now. When the CPU is close
to reaching its limits, I freeze some tracks.

Impossible to say how many tracks.But probably between 8 & 10.
I think it
safe to say I will wait till ML is released and see if the upgrade happens,if not I
will
Think again.
Probably going for a 27" i5 iMac,that should keep me
quiet for a while.

Any (i)Mac can handle eight to ten tracks easily. Forget about audio requirements and buy
the screen size you want. :-)
