Midas Pro2...anyone used one?

And if so, how easy is it to jump onto for someone who hasn't used a digital midas
before? I'm comfortable on Digico, Digidesign, yamaha, allen & heath
digital desks, but might have the opportunity to use a Pro2 on a 44 channel gig. Any info gratefully received! Cheers

I've used one.. really easy... you'll have no problem
and theres an offline
editor you can download so you can have a look round the software.

There are some nice features that other consoles don't have..
POP groups..
which is basically a collection of channels and only aids navigation. So you might have
all drums in POP Grp 1.. Guitars in POP 2 etc... then you can press POP1 button and your
drums are laid out on the channel next to the master section.. it just makes navigation a
lot quicker when you've got a limited number of real faders.
Also, theres a
button that extends the input channels onto the output faders to give you more faders to
mix with.
MCA Groups are good if your doing monitors.. an MCA (Mix Control
Association) group is like a VCA except it works on aux sends (There are also VCAs too).

Cool. Well, I've said I'd like to use it, but they may go for a PM5 instead. I'll wait and
see!

I would much prefer the Pro2 over a PM5D. I think you'll love the Pro2 once you've used
one.
Even the Pro2C is nice to use (its the same as the Pro2 but with 8 fewer
input faders), but might be a bit short on faders for a 44 channel gig... but if you use
the POP groups then I don't think it would be a problem.

Ok, here's the 2 minute review.
First off, let's not beat around the bush.
It's a Midas, and it sounds like one. Hands down the best sounding digital desk I've used
to date. It also feels like one. All the controls are the right amount of resistance to
make it feel like you're using an analogue control. It's got the usual suspects of
features, and very flexible routing. In fact I used the matrix sends as an extra FX aux as
I ran out of auxes (using the desk for monitors)
However, it doesn't quite
win the "easiest desk to use" award. It took a little longer to get familiar with than it
did with an M7, I found the layering a little over complicated, you basically have to use
the population groups to get around the desk fast enough. The other annoying thing is it
doesn't link gains on linked channels, or solo buttons on stereo outs, so that slowed me
down a little bit.
That said, I'd choose it over any other desk with that
many ins and outs....you can live with a few niggles to get that sound...

well, I never said it was the easiest desk, and you wouldn't expect it to considering
the features it offers.. But its easier to walk up to than a Pro6 or an XL8... and easier
than a PM5D IMO.

yeah, it doesn't really do layers.. you
can scroll through banks of channels, like using a Mackie Controller with Logic, but the
POP groups kind of replaces the idea of layers and I much prefer that approach.

did you check the channel linking preferences?

It's not the hardest desk to use either, that probably didn't come across in the last
post. I was still up and running in 30mins with no problems. I didn't check the
prefs for the gains, but the PA company guy was sure the solo linking wasn't an option.
