Crossover Frequency Guidelines

Hi,
Broad question I know but I am just trying to figure out good crossover
frequencies for my speakers and also when eq'ing using Mid/Side EQ and what the
relationship between the 2 might be.
Basically as far as the speakers are
concerned I have Alto Truesonic TS112 passive tops and 1 KAM Extreme R15 sub. I have a
Crossover unit I am using. What range would be considered a general guideline for setting
the crossover frequency to?
In regards to Mid/Side EQ, I want to cut all the
lows from the side signal on my Bass Bus and even on my Master Bus to keep the lows
centered in the stereo field. I am doing electronic bass music and was wondering again,
what a guideline would be to set the cutoff frequency to?

I'll move this post to the Live Sound section where your crossover question will attract
the attention of our tame PA experts...
...but as for the MS EQ question, to
centre the bass you need to roll off everything below about 120Hz in the Side channel.
It's not hugely critical and you'll need to judge it by ear to find the optimum place for
your own music, but the usual turnover frequency range is somewhere between about 80 and
180Hz. I wouldn't go higher than 200 or lower than 80Hz.
Hope that helps

Depends on the boxes, where they are in the room and what type of music, but usually
somewhere in the 80 - 120Hz range works for the crossover point.
Do make sure
you have a high pass set to protect the sub from being driven too far below resonance (and
to remove VLF that the sub cannot reproduce but that reduces amplifier headroom).
