There are apps for smart phones that do something very similar...

I've been training my dog for years to sniff out electrical smog; he is highly trained and can smell a electrical device from a much greater distance than these contraptions!

People may say she's just sniffing your crotch but I maintain it's the electrical smog building up from your phone being in your pocket...

See, that's mostly not the case with dogs and crotches. What they've learnt is that most of the people they meet when they're out for a walk have a doggy treat bag attached somewhere round their waist or in a pocket, and they're just trying to find it.

Although if you happen to have come downstairs in the middle of the night without any clothes on, you can definitely get a doggy nose poked in places where you really don't want a doggy nose...
