Dead Tascam DM24 repair or break up for parts
      #995843 - 02/07/12 11:34 PM
As the title says my Dm24 has died showing error 0000009-01 and 0000004, I have been in touch with Tascam who say it needs to be returned, but its just not viable cost wise to send it back.
Is there anyone who knows these error codes and can give me some insight to the problem, if not then sadly I will break it for spares.

I presume Tascam will not tell you what the codes mean? If that is the case I dare say we all know who you will NOT be getting equipment from in the future!

Dave.

Google finds a few people reporting that dodgy capacitors are a common problem with this unit...

Quote:

This mixer is plagued by bad caps in the powersupply. Open the desk. Find the powersupply and change the caps...big black round capacitors. If the silver heads are a bit round they are failing. They should be dead on flat.

Might be worth a look anyway.

Thanks for the replies
Actually I just got a yamaha to replace the DM24 so not to worried about it.
Tascam are keeping quiet on the error codes so no luck there.
I took a gamble when I purchased the unit second hand and bought as seen for 40 pounds. I did do a google search but found nothing on capacitors although I will have a closer look, all I could find was that the screens are prone to go and i do have a few lines across the screen.
It is booting up Ok and the faders do perform there calibration although one or two are a bit sluggish, it then comes up with the error code and thats it, locked.
thanks guys

I have the service manual on PDF for the DM24, I couldn't find anything on that code though. If you do break it for spares I'd be interested in the main PCB - I dropped an FX unit on my DM - amazingly everything still works except one of the LEDS on channel 6 - DOH!

The tascamforums.com had a lot of info and repair info regarding the dm24, but seems like they are gone.

Regarding capacitors there are a couple of caps on the powersupply that commonly fail. I changed them myself a few months ago.

I have a pdf guide from tascam on changing the supply capacitors but dont think I can add an attachement here. I also believe I had the service manual but I can't find it, maybe I just looked at it at the tascamforums.

Perhaps you could PM me too, as I seem to have lost it. Never know when something might happen to an aging digital desk.
