Adjust Levels on P.A system new
      #992921 - 15/06/12 06:45 AM
There is a PA system Left-Right-Center Cluster-Subs-Front Fills.I would like to ask which is the best way to adjust the levels on this system that will be playing in an auditorium. Is it better to use a sound level meter or EAW Smaart and how am I going to do this.

Thank you in advance.

On the whole, I'd say the best way to adjust the level of a PA would be to use a volume knob.

Give the guy a break; English is almost certainly not his first language and he's doing his best to get some info and help about how to balance the different elements of a system.

Sorry but the evidence to me suggests 'homework question'.
New user, structure of question, etc.

SPL meters and Smaart are measurement tools and are used to aid the adjustment of systems, but they do not do the adjustment for you. There are other tools to shape the sound levels a system can put out, the volume knob being one of them.
In most cases the best analysis tool to use is the human ear.

How to:
Listen to the system. Identify what needs adjusting. Adjust using the appropriate tools.
This does not always mean using equipment. Tilting the angle of a speaker is an adjustment that in some cases can make a different to the level.

EAWs website has instructions as to how to use Smaart.
Knowing why and when to use it is as important as knowing how to use it.

Failing that, if your question is not actually homework related, please include details of exactly what the PA is made up of (how many speakers, which ones, where the are located, etc), the layout of the venue and the desired result you are after and I'm sure that further help will be forthcoming. You could do worse than hire a consultant. There are several on this forum.

Stu.

These details would be very helpful, without them its pretty hard to help you.

I'd probably want something in the region of 6dB less on the fills rather than the mains if it's a big arena. Doesn't always work, but a show recently really needed less energy pointed at concrete walls.
