iLoks and vocal plugins new
      #998443 - 17/07/12 05:10 PM
Hi all,

Bit of an involved two parter this one. Following on from reading alexis' post about TC outboard vocal machine, I got to thinking something like that would be useful for a project I'm working on at the moment - but ITB. I had a cursory hunt around and found this:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HarmonyEFX-e/

Which seems pretty cheap (til the end of the month so far as I can tell)

Does anyone have any experience of it and any feedback that might be useful - or suggest any alternatives?

Secondly - My old (now defunct) 2nd hand MacPro came with an iLok, which I haven't used but thought I might be able to register the Harmony EFX with. Unfortunately I'm no longer in contact with the previous owner (and it's not possible to get in contact with him) so I can't register the iLok to myself. I can't seem to find any way of getting around this.

I've never used an iLok for anything and am slightly reserved about buying one just for one plugin.

Does anyone have any suggestions (or where to purchase a cheap, working iLok?)

Thanks in advance

T-Man

You can purchase an iLok from most retailers, or directly from iLok.com.

Make sure you are buying an iLok2, the current generation.

iLok.com may be able to help you use your current iLok, but I doubt it because of account issues. But your software may need the new generation iLok, regardless.

If you're buying iLok protected plugins, make sure your trial of the plugins or products requires an iLok. This way you'll discover if your host has problems with the iLok protected software. Find this out before you plunk down your money for the plugins! If you have problems, the DAW maker, iLok, and plugin maker will all blame each other for the problems that mostly likely will never be fully sorted.

Thanks Jeraldo,

Can anyone recommend a decent vocal harmoniser that works with a midi keyboard and doesn't require an iLok?

Hi all,

Just to let you know, I downloaded the demo of the Antares Harmony EFX and have decided to abandon the whole idea! What an appalling sounding plug-in (even at the discounted price). Guess there are no real shortcuts - bring on the BVs!

I've never found any "auto-harmony" machine to be anything other than an unusable novelty, personally.

BV's all the way, and they are much more fun and creative to do, anyway...
