Hughes & Kettner Statesman dual EL84 new
      #995674 - 01/07/12 09:26 PM
Just acquired as a pet for my Tweed Deluxe.

So. It has an Eminence cream speaker in it that sounds a bit brash to my ears.
First inclination was yet another 20 watt Celestion G12S, but does the team have any other affordable suggestions apart from a Weber or a blue Classic Celestion?

Celestion do not list a G12 "S" AFAIKS? Do you mean the G12 Greenback? If so, smoooooth! Got one partnering an HT-20,son loves it for jazz (but he is in France now)

If you really wanted some welly, go for Gold but it might still be a bit on the bright side for you.

Dave.

G12-S is an OLD 20 watt 12" greenback. I have one in my Deluxe clone and love it.

£5 on ebay a few years back.

Right! Well then Ive' could you not fit 1/2 normalled speaker jacks to the Deluxe and jack into the 12-s?
Or do you want to use both amps at the same time?

Dave.

That was the plan....one for fat warm but twinkly Fenderesque sounds and one for the AC stuff....

Somebody must do an affordable non-honky 12" speaker....

Have you had a chat with Watford Valves about the Jenson options Ivan?

(grin) on a slightly related subject, anyone in the cambridge/huntingdon/Peterorough area have access to a table saw that can handle basic cutting of an 8x4 sheet of 12mm plywood?

Or anyone that would be prepared to make my initial three cuts for me if I paid them?

Decided to Build my own cabinet for 2 10" NEODYMIUM speakers and just realised I no longer have access to a proper saw!

Sorry I'm not closer Ivan mate. I might well have access to something suitable here now. In fact you've started me thinking about building cabs.... Naughty boy!! I can't quite afford that yet!!

I take it you already have the wood Ive? If not B&Q have a vertical saw for large sheets (well N'pton branch does). And 12mm? Bit thin for speaker cabs I would say, most are 19mm.

I got the Bill Fitzmaurice Jack 2x10 plans which calls for 12mm ply. Sourced some baltic birch ply locally at £50 a sheet! AND they will do the large initial cuts for me at a reasonable price and to reasonable accuracy.

If I wind up doing the rest myself, this is likely to take a while with my crappy chop saw. jigsaw and circular saw, but what the heck - I have the time.

I actually need it to be done by NYE when we are playing a bowling club with a HUGE indoor bowling green, which is being boarded over for the NYE do and we are expected to fill it with noise!!

We are talking about the euqivalent of about six lawn bowls greens!!!!

So, how many 2 by 10s are you going to make?

Dave.

(grin) Just noticed this!

Trying to decide if my woodworking skills are up to this or if I should just find a way to bodge the slightly smaller-diameter neo's into the existing cabinet anyway!

Cheaper but I suspect rather ugly.

It might be quite straightforward to make a replacement baffle. Could be as simple as removing a handful of screws to remove the original baffle then using that as a template to make a replacement to accommodate the new drivers.

Unfortunately on closer inspection the baffle seems to be glued to the throat of the bass port and various other bits of MDF.
I am still seriously considering it but have too many gigs too close together to do it right away.
But with the 'big hall' gig on NYE I guess I have to get it sussed before then.
Thanks for all the advice and comments, chaps.
