Sorry! I thought it was a Music Business forum!

Apparently it isn't. This thread got locked seemingly because two professionals
were engaging in an open and frank discussion: http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/showflat.php?Board=MUSBIZ&Number=999
185Yes, it did rather veer from the original topic but it is actually a
very interesting and important subject and, from my understanding, one that affects many
working composers. It's a shame the whim of the mods stopped this from being developed
further because they felt a little uncomfortable about a little difference of opinion. I thought Johnny made some very good points.

Was it locked because someone raised the subject of the infamous Sound On Sound wall
chart?

No, let's be honest. It got closed because
you derailed it, as you have done before under your previous user name of White Car Man,
have possibly done before (I have no idea whether you've had previous user names here),
and will no doubt do again.
I have no idea what pleasure or satisfaction you
get from doing this. But, in the case of this long-term user, I am closing my account as
I'm sick of people like you trying to turn every subject into a joke.
To all
those on here that I've had good times with: apologies if we have no other contact
method, you won't be seeing me here again.

Dave Gate's public annoyance with the games that you and your friends
enjoy playing was by no means the only "can't you do something about this?" comment that
the mods corporately and individually received about the direction that the thread you
referenced was taking.
You won't believe it, but the mods do actually let
things run on a long lead most of the time. However, there is a group of forum
contributors who sometimes individually, but frequently in concert, delight in mischief. I
know you would like us to allow you to have your unfettered fun, but we have to take
account of the greater number who often find your joint contributions tedious in the
extreme.
... and should you or anyone else wish to pursue the well-worn path
of the place of humour in the forum then we'll be moving the thread to a more appropriate
sub-forum.

In fairness Mike, Oui, Miss Reidy was barely involved.
I feel it only right and
proper to step forward myself and declare that yes, I did attempt to both question, and
discuss some of Nacroman's statements.
I shouldn't have done that.
And now I feel awful that Dave has flounced.
So, it's with a heavy heart that
I say to Dave:
"Bye."
(that's not me flouncing by the way...I'm
gonna stick around if that's ok)

You don't
get out that easy.
I was reading that thread and found it quite interesting.
As far as i could see there were two trouble makers on that thread and both of them had a
little after
their name.
Same as it ever was. No wonder this place is so quiet.

iIm up for a discussion. I'm not so up for a general "say black
when I say white". Times change, laws change, work changes.
Moderation was
fine. Worked didn't it?
The discussion would be fine if it didnt revolve
around you saying "thats never the case" when I know different. I'm not questioning your
experiences but for you to state that I am giving wrong information is just silly. As for
protecting composers - Our company lands composers on our books work that would normally
go to library and we bring back projects that go to Prague etc back into London. So I'd
appreciate being spoken to with at least as much respect as anyone else on here.
Other than that - very happy to discuss this stuff.

it's sock puppetry galore! I know a sock when I see one. If it's any
consolation to the mods, last time I was trolled by such a sock ("white van man") I
pointed refused to rise to to it. Much to the detriment of forum entertainment, I might
add.

...and there's the rub......the lines are
somewhat hazily drawn. I guess if someone is ONLY trolling threads then that is tedious,
but of course there are some threads that cry out for some cheeky banter and even quality
satire...but ultimately it is the mod team who must make the call, and sometimes they get
it wrong ....and sometimes I reply humorously to a thread that I wish I'd kept my mouth
shut in. Dave

The Chinese govt have been trying to find a way to filter irony and sarcasm since the
development of the 'net.If we find a way to do it here I can make us all rich.
Come to think of it the UK legal system hasn't got a great record in this area and they
speak the language (kind of).

hi all,
a little perspective, please! we're the lot of us stuck on a sinking
ship (the music biz), and yet we're here by choice - no one put a gun to our head and said
"compose, damn ye!". youtube is experimenting with banning anonymous comments in the
interests of enforced civility, which i'd be fine with (i've posted my real name here once
or twice). SoS may need to head that way, which wouldn't deter me from participating here
but might chill a little of the fun ;-)
there are some individuals involved in
this contretemps who i've found to be a little too impressed with themselves, and yet
they've also been some of the most responsive to SoS member queries about the in's and
out's o/t biz, so i figure it's not up to me to act as a "truth" squad. let's just relax
and remember that this is just about pretty tones or 1's and 0's or whatever you prefer.
FWIW, i'm totally happy w/t mods. i think they do a great job and they're
probably very good looking, as well ;-)
cheers,
d

Messing with the integrity of 'quotes' is not right and far more degrading to the forum
