Frustrating! High speed internet, 24 Hour couriers etc but nobody is actually stocking
anything.
Ok a slight exaggeration but all i want is a couple of mics and they
are either ordered on demand or up to £30 dearer for those who do have them. So unless i
want to pay silly money i will have to wait 7 to 10 days.
Going backwards IMO

Well, that's just life, ain't it. I know it won't make you feel any better, but if that's
your biggest problem life can't be too bad. What gets me (and it obviously doesn't apply
to you as the sums are too large) is when people won't pay a couple of quid to have
something delivered when they'll quite happily get in their car and drive miles for the
same thing, spending far more on petrol than on delivery charges. Stupid or what?
I haven't done an exact calculation (I do have a life) but I reckon buying online has
saved me hundreds if not thousands of pounds over the time I've been doing it. Which I can
put towards shopping locally for the stuff I can get locally and paying a few quid for
express delivery now and again just so, for example, when my wife runs out of tights
there's a pile of them there next day. Worth every penny!

Fact of life these days...
Stock on the shelf is costing retailers money unless
they can be sure of selling before they get their supplier invoice... all about
cash-flow.
I've noticed that it's becoming far more common of late and I'm
tending to 'phone suppliers now rather buy from t'Internet - at least then you can discuss
delivery times etc.

I'm feeling pretty impressed with all things Amazon at the mo after the Good Lady Wife
ordered an updated version of a book I was reading at teatime only for it to arrive at the
crack of dawn the next day. Less than £6 all in for a £10 book in excellent 2nd hand
condition.
Modrin life, eh?

I've given up with places like DV
(there's one just 10 minutes walk away) as they have never had anything I wanted in stock
(and that's going back 15 years so it isn't a new problem). I was pleasantly surprised
that Andertons seemed to have good stocks when last bought something from there although
nowadays I tend to buy from Thomann or CPC who are far more reliable.

Yeah, this is basically what I was moaning about re: GAK in Brighton - in principle
I ought to be able to walk round there (it's about 1/4 of a mile away from FelineHQ) and
buy stuff, but nothing's ever actually in stock in the shop. There's usually "just
one" in the warehouse round the corner "but we can't get that now today"... So
I still have to wait for a week for it to arrive in the shop so I can get it the following
weekend... ...and the item I got last weekend was faulty! And so needs swapped for a
working one! And it'll be 2 weeks before they have any more in stock ARRRRGH. Will somebody PLEASE invent teleport?!?

These days my preference is - Sound Affects (Ormskirk) and Sounds Great (Manchester) for
face to face shopping. Both shops offer excellent service and Sounds Affects is local to
my place of work. They are generally competitive but in any case I am happy to pay a
little more for service plus I like to support local businesses.
Andertons and
Thomann for on-line because they have proved themselves to be reliable (in terms of
delivery, stock information and, in the case of Thomann, support should things go wrong)
plus they are competitive and offer a wide range of products. I have a 'black list' of
suppliers who claim that items are in stock when clearly they are not. The list is headed
by a certain retailer residing on the South coast.

I would concur with Music Wolf. Sound Great...is...well..great for face to face. Well
stocked and in terms of guitar stuff they carry a wide range. Online I am straight to
Andertons, I have shopped there for nearly 20 years (used to live on the first road around
the corner...so had to move as my GAS would always get the better of me and it cost me a
fortune!). I have recently had a few dealings with GuitarGuitar online, and I have to say
they were great, quick on the phone, quick on the email, offered to give me a great deal
and very conversational and chatty...just like the old days of going into a shop...except
not being in a shop! Now I have pretty much given up on the 'big' sites, eg DV,
but have brought a few bits from Amazon via companies such as Coda and Nevada. No problems
there either. I should also give a shout out for PMT in Salford, great bunch of
guys, really friendly, I have to say a few times that they don't seem to have the stock
(as is the title of this post), which is a bit disappointing, but of course it is a great
play to try stuff out. It does seem though that nowhere these days has the
reputation that Turnkey had (and yes I
used to work there!)

It's not just retailers. General electronic/electrical spares suppliers are drastically
cutting back on stock levels, even on common parts
