Serenity - Layered Acoustic Guitars (WIP) new
      #999785 - 25/07/12 04:34 PM
Hello,

I´m working mainly with acoustic guitars and I recorded these layered acoustic guitars,
and this is what I have so far:

- some EQ on individual tracks
- some compression of the 3 guitars on a buss track
- sends reverb to an effects track

I would appreciate your comments about the possible ways to improve the mixing and
other considerations you may have in mind relating to this track:

SERENITY (wip)

Thanks in advance
Jorge

I think it's gorgeous.

The only thing i'd say is that this is a "float away" track, and although you are having great fun playing the top/solo/classical part, and it does sound lovely... from a psychological and structural point of view i think it should be more sparse. It's just a personal opinion, but i need time to drift off on that beautiful lush bed working under it.

Treat it more like a lyric.

I still think it's gorgeous.

I agree with Ow re the potential benefit of a more sparse arrangement.

Also, the slow Rasgueado type strummed part is a bit harsh for me. I'd try and tame that or maybe lose it altogether.

Another idea might be some complementary instrumentation like a Cello.

A very nice piece though. Could work well for Meditation / Yoga type applications.

Hi,

Thanks for your nice comments and ideas.

I think I did not understood what you mean by a more sparse arrangement in this context.
Are you talking about the song structure / arrangement or the solo / classical guitar playing too much notes, not giving enough space for the rhythm guitar to breathe?

And yes, I think the strummed part it´s a bit harsh too...

for me the lead voice is the music, I don't think it is the problem, I think the backing is overpowering it. The strum is nice but as has been said needs to be "back" a bit. I don't agree that the "backing" is the best bit of the song, I like the lead. I think you should approach the mix from the lead guitar and make sure everything else supports it or goes. I also think some strings or something maybe coming in around 1.33.

of course opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one!

IMO there's a bit too much going on at the same time and the various guitar parts are fighting for attention. Give the piece some space and let the instruments breathe. Less is more. Have fewer things playing at the same time. Think about the inclusion of some subtle pads which, if used judiciously, will add texture and weight but without getting in the way of the remining guitars.

Very nice. Except that for me the classical gtr part sounds like noodling and I'd like a tune.
