i've come across a sythesizer
it has the following written on it
"Yamaha, programmable memory synthesizer, model cs series, 20M"
can any one
tell me how much i could sell this for ?

What sort of condition is it in? If it's good and everythings working (including the patch
memories)you could potentially get £600 to £800. If it's in poor condition, you'd halve
that amount.

Definitely - the valuations
on Vintage Synth are out of date. (A CS80 for under a grand? I don't think so.)
I'd have thought you'd get at least £400 for one of these in good condition. They don't
come up very often. Only one I can see is £617 in 2008. The last CS30 on Ebay went for
£625, though there's currently one on "Buy Now" for a hopeful £1300.

Makes my eyes bleed looking at the prices of gear nowadays. I sold my CS60 a
few years back for around the 800 mark. I feel robbed, disillusioned and will
probably go on a Prozac and Scotch bender now and the result will be your fault. Hope
you can live with it.

I hear you m8, but I was selling off my studio and 26 keyboards plus a ton of other gear
was a bit much for the bedroom.

I always thought the Yamaha CS20m was pants, really.
Thin, weedy, dead,
lifeless, uninspiring, not very flexible, and just plain didn't sound good...
ymmv...
£600-800...? Only some sucker would pay that. On your side, it's
not small and looks fairly decent, plus it's a monosynth that has patch memories, which is
fairly rare. These days you could probably get £400 for it, but that's still overpriced
imo.
I'd far rather have a Pro1 than a CS20m... far more useful...

I'd hazard that desmond's £400 is closer to the mark; I paid £650 for a minty CS-40M
with case a couple of years ago, which was a pretty sturdy price at the time. Now, I'd
expect more. Not that I'm selling. I find the 40M to be great for sounds effects and
anything slightly mad. If you want what people mysteriously call "phat" you won't get
much of it in the CS monos, though that's not to say they don't sound good - they're just
nothing like Moogs, that's all. Switchable BP/LP/HP filters, memories, plenty of
modulation and good interfacing - and they have their own sound. Worth keeping, I'd
say.
Don't pay any attention to the prices listed on VSE's synth pages, they've
not been updated for years.
