Hi everyone! There are lots of SOS Forum users involved one way or another in
sound design, so I thought it would be helpful to post some inspirational links to keep us
all going: Here are a few to get you started: www.musicofsound.co.nz/blogwww.musicofsound.co.nz/blog/100-best-postswww.everydaylistening.comhttp://waveformless.blogspot.comwww.motherboard.tv/search/posts?keyword=soundAnd here’s

Can you recommend a mic for under £100 to record sand?

Glad you enjoyed it
I haven’t met a musician yet who didn’t find that one
fascinating. While I was determined to post a link to Diego’s own web site, here’s
another containing his video works that’s easier to navigate:
www.behance.net/DiegoStocco
Now I know you’re only
jesting about the mics, and that you probably know far more than me about them, but to
answer your question Diego uses plenty of relatively inexpensive Rode mics for his sound
design work (as do various other SDs). His favourite seem to be the NT6, for its ability
to fit in small spaces, but this is over £200.
For recording tiny sounds you
really do need a mic with low self-noise, and although I doubt you could find a model
under £100 that a professional would recommend, Rode’s NT1A can be bought for around
£130 in the UK, has an incredibly low 5dBA self-noise, and although the top end can be
harsh in some applications it might be a good choice

Today's daily dose of SD inspiration looks more closely at the sound design of an old
classic, but for those who haven't seen it before it's nevertheless a goodie:

Stumbled onto this yesterday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRYQEmwPJjQPeter Howell
shows us how he remade the Doctor Who theme for the 80s. And further to that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKPGzX5kZd0The Alchemists
of Sound - Documentary about the Radiophonic Workshop from 2003. Not checked the link
though.

Hi Richie, and thank you for contributing to this thread! The first link was wonderfully stilted in an old-fashioned BBC way, while ‘The
Alchemists Of Sound’ series about the BBC Radiophonic Workshop is well worth adding to
this list. Anyone else care to add to this repository of SD inspiration? Martin

Hi Martin, it is a very old fashioned style clip, but I think that helps it be
informative. I was looking for CS80 stuff and that came up. Spotted some nice Vangelis
clips on their as well, not really about sound design, but worth a look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enqSSs8PRmkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoEkyBX7qsg

Karlheinz
Stockhausen. I think many would already be aware about this visionary who influenced
Kraftwerk and many other masters of electronic music of our generation and will continue
to do the favor for a very very long time. He died of cardiac arrest in 2007. Check these
videos, can be a Zen experience for you. Video # OneVideo # Two Video # ThreeVideo # FourVideo #
FiveFor any electronic artist who had never heard about this late sound
master must not waste any further time and should find more dope about Karlheinz
Stockhausen.

A new classic already from Kutiman. As usual, it is as much about the video as it is the
audio, but it is inspiring none the less! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGWPvhmTD_c&feature=sub&videos=5nMj

Kutiman's well 'ard. Been a fan of his for a while. Takes me back to the early
Art of Noise days. 'Pure' sampling and innovative use of the samples.

Thank you for that link Paul.
Loved http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vch-Z9ccHTk&feature=channel upon
first hearing 2009.
I'm with Zuke ... reminds me also of
Zoolook by JMJarre.
On ThruYou
"It took me two months,
but it was really intense. I barely eat, I just worked on a computer and went to
sleep...day and night, and night and day...didn't see any friends, no family...not even
the sun."
That is where it is ... just him and his Lady
creativity.
If i may be forgiven ... being on forums lots hinders our
intimacy with this Lady ... She will leave us if we take a second glance at another.

Raymond rarely seems to get a mention, but for those who don't know he was an electronic
music pioneer. He created the Electronium; some video here of a restoration
project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otc6yRRK5WA (not viewed, I'm at
work!) Among other things as well: http://www.keyboardmuseum.com/pre60/1950/clavivox.html

Yeah - considering Amon claims to have never used a microphone before (his previous work
was apparently all using ‘captured’ samples from old vinyl sources) he comes up with
plenty of imaginative ways to use the sounds that were captured Martin
