Midi keyboards
      #900612 - 13/03/11 10:42 AM
Hi everyone .I am a Guitarist and use sonar 8 to record my audio . Now want to get my son set up to play with us on stage.
This is were the fun begins
There is a blank canvas .
I have seen an M Audio axiom 61 that looks quite versatile having pads on it as well
Ableton live looks to be used extensively in the industry
I am on Windows 7

Advice needed on
What midi keyboard
what DAW
what laptop spec to get to use it with on stage
I want use a pad/key to play a prerecorded noise can all keyboards and daws do that
There seems to be a lot of support on you tube by way of tutorials for Ableton live as i want to learn how to use the daw well

Any advice would be wonderful as i am a bit clueless and am new to midi engineering

I know VERY little about keyboards Jon (son uses an Evolution EKeys 49 and a very old Yammy PSS-790)but I would not want a laptop in a live set situation!

My thought would be to put all that money into a standalone keyboard and feed that to PA? You can do the MIDI thing at home with quite a modest pc.

Dave.

I tend to agree with Dave - the last thing you want in a dodgy venue is a crashed laptop

Oooo! Am I in good company or WHAT!

Further thoughts; As you get to the more expensive synths you will probably find one that will operate as an audio interface as well as MIDI over usb. Many come with some rather useful DAW software as well.

Dave.

Hi guys,

I'm new here and Ableton is my primary DAW.

A good resource for Ableton tutorials can be found at www.cosm.co.nz

For live performance, this guy uses Ableton on a Macbook, along with 1 or 2 MIDI controllers. It's a very minimal setup (both in cost and controllerism) but it's extremely versatile. Check it out.

Cheers,

Rahul
