Help on Weird Oberheim Matrix 6 Problem?
      #922379 - 24/06/11 08:27 PM
Hi vintage-heads,

My 6R is acting up just as I was really beginning to use it again. Bummer. Anyways, here's the symptom: the patch names started disappearing over the space of a few days - first a bunch in the high patch numbers, then it worked its way down to when it included every patch from 00-99. Weirdly, the patches are still there and the display itself works fine - it's just the names all say '777777'.

My guess is that I have a dead/dying battery. Can anyone confirm this? I've checked the manual and couldn't find anything. Any help from out in SoS land would be welcome indeed!

Cheers,

d

Have you edited a patch name and watched it to see if it's saved, and if it does, how long does it last before it goes to the luck number?

It is about time to think about a battery replacement. Mine can't be far behind...

I'd plump a guess at the battery too.

cheers, guys, for the replies. steve, i'll try your suggestion. i'm pretty certain it's the battery, too, but it's just weird that the presets themselves didn't go away, just the names. oh well, i've seen plenty weirder things in 30+ years of mucking with computers and computer controlled gear ;-).

now i've got to pull the damn thing out of the rack and open it up. sigh.

cheers again,

d
